Need for quiet

There needs to be a chat room for people who congregate and talk non-stop in groups.  This way they don't disturb people trying to read.  This is a very noisy library.  At Nyack Library you can hear a pin drop.

Today's public library is a center of the community, a place where neighbors, friends, and students meet whether by chance or appointment. The staff will enforce the patron code of conduct policy if conversation reaches a volume or duration that proves disruptive to fellow patrons, but we will not shush.

We are one of the more busy libraries in the county.  Our patrons and staff are engaged, educated, and vibrant people who thrive on social interaction.  We'd hate to squash that.

Medical Books

Need a really excellent physicians handbook that one can look up their doctors' background. The in one in the library is not good. Thanks.

Unfortunately in this digital age,  many of the print resources once available have disappeared. Our current physicians books published by Castle Connolly are one of the few readily available for library use. We will look into alternative resources.

Cafe at the Library

The Suffern Library has a successful coffee bistro located in its lower level. Visitors to the library seem to use it regularly. Should the New City Library use the free space arising from moving the videos and music materials and install a coffee bistro downstairs?

Our plan is to use our freed up space as a sorely needed quiet study area. The design of the library is such that it can be hard to find a quiet niche and that is our current priority. It is a great suggestion and one we'll keep in mind for the future.

Changes to the Building

I do not like the changes to the floor. They are disruptive and unnecessary.

We know that change can be difficult. Right now, some of our collections may seem far flung, but the payoff has already begun. You no longer have to look through bins of cards to find your DVD. Instead, you can take it right off the shelf and eliminate a lengthy step in the checkout process. By the time summer begins in earnest, there will also be the lovely edition of a quiet study area which many patrons have requested in the past. We apologize for these temporary inconveniences while we strive to make the library better.

One on One Computer Help

I have been visiting other local libraries which provide one to one tutoring in technology and your personal needs. Why don't we have this? Group classes  are not as powerful and technological literacy is essential. Even New York
City is providing several locations with this in mind. I would love to have open sessions or appointments since I am very busy and  cannot make use of many group sessions.

Recording Programs

The library has many programs with great presenter that are done during working hours. Some of us would like to benefit from them too. I suggest you make videos like YouTube and put them on your website for all to enjoy.

We're glad that our programming interests a wide variety of people and acknowledge the difficulty of attending some of the daytime programs. Unfortunately, taping these programs isn't currently feasible for a number of reasons. If in the future there is a program that particularly interests you, please let us know and we'll attempt to offer it again in the evening.

Lights and the Books on CD

I am visually impaired, please put brighter lights in the meeting room. I couldn't see the books on CD.

During the construction, we are temporarily housing our books on CD, Playways and Romance paperbacks in our meeting room. As of today, we've changed all the bulbs to increase the brightness as best we can and are investigating other lighting possibilities. If all goes as planned, those collections will be moved into their permanent and well lit  locations before the end of June. Thank you for your patience while we make major changes to our facilities.

Staff Kudos

The staff here are doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

Thank you!

Yoga Classes

Why not have ongoing Yoga classes?

We like to offer a wide diversity of programs. Yoga will always have a place in our schedule, but an ongoing class would limit other offerings we could make during the same time period.
