Beyond Books: The Oscars

How quickly a year passes!  It's hard to believe but, once again, we are fast approaching the Academy Awards show which will be aired on Sunday, March 2nd.

This year, as last year, there are nine films nominated in the Best Picture category.  There are so many worthy contenders for best film that, in my opinion, it will be hard to pick "the best".  There have also been some truly memorable acting performances this year.  Bruce Dern (Nebraska), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Amy Adams (American Hustle), Cate Blanchette (Blue Jasmine) have all made their respective characters come totally alive on the screen.  This has, indeed, been a good year for the movie industry.

Last year, for the first time, the New City Library AV Department had a "pick the Oscar winners" contest.  It was so popular with our patrons that I decided to, once again, have the same contest this year. Click here to enter!

You will be able to pick up a flyer to fill out when you visit the AV Department or, you can click on the link below to do it electronically.  The winner will receive a DVD of their choice (subject to library approval).  All entries are due back by 5:00 PM on Saturday, March 1st.  The winner will be announced next month in my March blog.  Have fun! Till next time......
