Our first frost this morning, and I will now have to do my final fall clean up in the garden. My fellow workers recognize all the hard work involved in gardening and marvel at the time and effort I put into caring for plants. I have a lot of help from the Digitial Download Center on the Library homepage. It's not a chore to dig, weed, and plant when I am simultaneously listening to a great book. If you have an Ipod or MP3 player, you too can download some great books and make all those repetitive tasks of yard work and house cleaning seem less time consuming. I recommend the flowing titles: The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff and Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith. Stop by Adult Reference and ask about Digital Downloads and get the most out of your MP3 player.
October. The days are getting shorter; the wind has turned chill. Darkness falls upon us more quickly now as we creep slowly towards the end of the year. Halloween approaches, a time when (some say) the boundaries between this world and the next wear thin. When the restless dead might walk. When we start to wonder... what else might be hiding out there, in the growing darkness? Intrigued? This month, I invite you to explore the darker side of fiction. Check out... HORROR!
Do you love the culinary arts as I do? Interested in cooking, baking, and reading cookbooks? Yes, I'm one of those who reads cookbooks with the same intensity and concentration as I do a novel or a nonfiction title. That's why it is my good fortune to have the joy of ordering and maintaining the cookery collection. One of my goals is to provide the latest cookbooks as well as a diversified collection, a little bit of something for everyone. Check out our cookbook display by the new nonfiction in the Adult Service area.
We welcome feedback so please share your culinary experiences or comments. I hope you will be excited as I am with the following newly acquired cookbooks:

This web site offers free access to an extraordinary database of information on ten million immigrants from 1830 through 1892, the year that Ellis Island opened. Over 73 million Americans can trace their ancestry to this early immigration period. Castle Garden, today known as Castle Clinton National Monument, is the major landmark within the Battery. From the 1855 to 1890, the Castle was America's first official immigration center, a pioneering collaboration of New York State and New York City.
