There's still time for kids in grades K-2 to sign up for this after-school story and craft program. Due to our unexpected snow closing on Friday March 8, it has been re-scheduled for this coming Friday March 15 at 4pm.  Call to reserve a space!

MuzzyWe have recently added MUZZY,  the award winning multimedia foriegn language program for children, to our database offerings.  This is an entertaining and effective way to introduce young children to Spanish, Mandarin, French,  and many others.   It is also a source of help for children learning English as a second language.  You can access MUZZY from home, on this homepage,  by clicking on the first item under the RESEARCH TAB....DATABASES. Select the STUDENT tab on the right, and you will find MUZZY listed amongst the other databases so valuable to young learners.

Holidays On The Way

The reHoliday favoritescent snowflakes are a reminder that the winter 2012 holiday season really is underway.  The Winter Solstice is on December 21, Christmas  just weeks away, and the first candle of Hanukkah will be lit on Saturday December 8th, after the Sabbath has ended.

owlUnfortunately, it won't be possible for us to have a room full of adorable farm animals to touch, HOWEVER, we will have a few e-readers and ipods available for children (and their parents)  to become fully aquainted with.  We will answer your questions, let you touch the equipment, and show you how to use it. We will also explore the Library's Webpage, Databases and Freegal.

Children in grades 3 & up are invited to drop in and create some earth-friendly crafts. There will also be a visitng artist from the Woodstock area to paint pictures of endangered animals (on faces, if you are willing).  Join us for an afternoon of thinking and caring about our planet!

Do you really know HOW  to read to them?  This research based presentation will explore how to work with your child at home to develop the building blocks of literacy, so that they can enter school with an advantage.  Children who start kindergarten with strong pre-reading skills are ready to learn, and to succeed. This free program is made possibile through the generous support of The New City Library, Clarkstown Family Resource Centers and Rockland 21 C.
