Garden Rockers! Planting!

Rain, rain, go away!  We'll be planting on Thursday! That's right, Rockers - we will be weeding and planting flowers this Thursday, May 17, starting at 7:00 pm in the Children's Garden here at the New City Library.  Bring your enthusiasm and love of dirt and join up!  The Garden Rockers Club is open to kids in grades 2 -5 in the Clarkstown School District. (The bugs might be out, so apply any insect repellent at home if you wish.)

All Aboard! Storytime at Congers Train Station

Join Mrs. B for an out-of-library preschool storytime at Congers Train Station on Tuesdays at 10:00 am.  Sessions will take place from April 17 through May 22.  Please remember to bring a mat to sit on and a grownup.  There is plenty of parking and restrooms are available.  The Congers Train Station is located on Burnside Avenue, just off of Congers/Lake Road, near the railroad tracks - of course!  The program lasts 30 minutes or so and plenty of children will fit in the big room!  Hope to see you there!

Movie Today!

Don't forget our School's Out Movie is showing at 3:00 pm TODAY!  There will be popcorn!  This animated film from deep in the rainforest shows the struggle between the nature sprites and encroaching development....featuring the voice acting of Robin Williams, Tim Curry, and others.  Just in time for Earth Day!

Upcoming Crafts for School-aged Kids

Just a quick reminder that next week we have two upcoming crafts for children who are in their "upper" elementary years.  If you're wondering how to keep your kids busy next week, these programs may fit the bill!!!

On Tuesday, April 10, 2012 we have a Knight's Armor Craft program from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Kids will have the opportunity to assemble and decorate foam-sheet armor.  Foam sheets are very durable and easy to work with.  Up to 12 children in grades 4-6 may register for this craft.

On Wednesday, April 11, 2012 we have a Duct Tape Wallet workshop from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.  We will have several colors of duct tape on hand, and children will create their very own wallet complete with both a billfold and a seperate section to hold gift cards, photo ID's, etc.  These wallets make great gifts, too.  This program is appropriate for up to 6 children in grades 5 and 6.

Please call Youth Services at 845-634-4997, extension 121 to register your child(ren).

Hatching in Children's!

Our Luna Moth has hatched.  She must be released soon - so come say hello before 4pm Tuesday!

What's New in Children's?

We have new paint, new carpeting and new 6-legged guests.  What does that mean?  Come in and see our live ladybugs and praying mantises soon to hatch!  Many programs are offered this Spring, from Duct Tape wallets, Mr. Kurt shows, and School's Out movies to Simple Sign Language, Garden Rockers, and Techi Spy Guys.  The garden is beginning to flower and the collections inside are growing, too.  If you need information on anything from Aardvarks to Zambonis, we are your one-stop shopping destination!  Keep an eye on the Children's webpage and events tab for up-to-date information on all our activities.  Check out the good homework and entertainment website tips for kids!
