Time to Rock the Garden!

Calling all Garden Rockers kids, Clarkstown Garden Club members, and other dirt enthusiasts! We will be weeding and planting in the Children's Garden today at 6:30pm. Our community support has been very strong donating plants and flowers - so bring your gloves and come on over! To celebrate this beautiful space and thank our volunteers,we will host a Garden Tea Party on June 8 and 9 at 3:00pm. Please plan to join us then to sip tea from a real teacup and daintily munch a cucumber sandwich as you enjoy our beautiful garden! Wearing fancy hats is encouraged!

There are still a few spots open for tomorrow's preschool cowpoke program! Call x121 or drop by to register! The program will take place at 1:30pm on Tuesday May 14 - we'll hear stories, make a cowpoke vest, have a snack and ride swim noodle horses!

Feeling overwhelmed? Too many issues with little ones and too few answers? Come on in to the Children's Department and take a look at our Parenting Collection. All the books on those shelves address a common childhood issue. A few of our picture books in this section include: One Special Day, a story for big brothers & sisters by Lola Schaefer, which talks about a new baby coming into the family; Melanie Walsh's Living with mom and living with dad describes a young child experiencing shared custody; Good-by, Sheepie by Robert Burleigh deals with the loss of a family pet; and My grandpa by Marta Altes is the story of a young bear whose grandpa is getting forgetful.

All Aboard! Storytime is Back

We are starting another six-week session of stories at the Congers Train Station on Wednesday April 3. We'll meet at 10:00am on Wednesdays through May 8. No registration or library card is needed - just come on by when it is convenient for you and your preschooler age 3+. There is plenty of parking and restrooms are available. Hope to see you there!

....can you tell me the title of a similar one?" This is a common question asked of us here in the children's department. If nothing pops into our heads right away, we often check in our database, NoveList K-8 Plus. This database can be accessed from your home computer or here at the library. Sounds great!, you say -- but how does it work? Well, here is a brief introduction to this wonderful resource. First go to our webpage. Next, click on the "research" tab at the top. When the drop-down menu appears, click on "databases". On the next page there are more tabs! Pick "literature" and it will bring you to the list of databases we have for that. There you will see NoveList K-8 Plus.

Teddy Bear Picnic

Bring your favorite teddy bear or other fluffy friend to an indoor picnic! On Tuesday March 12 at 1:30pm, Mrs. B will have the storytime room set up as a lovely spring meadow - with no ants! Ongoing registration is underway, so if you are a preschooler age 3 and up, join us by signing up soon! We will have stories, songs, and of course, snacks!

Happy Spring! Time for our Garden Rockers to sign up and start planning this year's children's garden. Please call 634-4997 x 121 to register over the phone or come on in and tell us your 2nd - 5th grader's info to register in person. Meetings start in March and we plan to have a Garden Tea Party at a date to be determined to celebrate our work. Won't you join us?

New Music Program

Join Mrs. B with your walker up to age 2 for a fun musical laptime program. Each session will include songs, rhymes and dancing! These registered programs are offered at 1:30pm on Tuesdays two times a month in March, April and May in the Storytime Room. Sign-up for the March 5 & 19 sessions begins tomorrow, February 26. April's sessions will be on the 2nd and 16th with registration on March 26. Sign-up for our May 7th & 21st sessions starts April 30. Hope to see you soon!
