What is Bollywood? |
| Bollywood is a genre
of Mumbai-based, Indian film. In terms of the number of films
produced, it is the largest film industry in the world. The term Bollywood was created by combining Bombay (the city now called Mumbai) and
"Hollywood." Usually musicals, there are few Bollywood films that do not feature at least one song-and-dance number. But Indian audiences don't only expect song and dance, they also want to see romance, comedy and adventure, all mixed up in a three-hour-long extravaganza with intermission. These movies are called masala movies, after the spice mixture, because they have a little bit of everything. Find these movies in the Foreign Films section of the A/V department. |
